Grassroots Leaders Stand with Dan Patrick

Across Texas – Today marks a historic new low in the rough and tumble world of Texas politics. When Dewhurst came in a distant second in the first round of the primary, pundits said he should go negative or go home. It is clear Dewhurst has chosen the low road to extreme negativity, but his methods of reprehensible personal attacks are nothing new. We vividly remember all the ways he worked overtime to personally destroy Ted Cruz in the 2012 US Senate race. He wasn’t successful then, and he won’t be this time.

Rather than discuss serious issues facing Texas, over the last three weeks, David Dewhurst has lied about the reasons Dan Patrick changed his name, hypocritically deceived about Dan’s financial history, and intentionally misled voters about Dan’s charitable work for a charity for special needs children. Now, he is working with Jerry Patterson to sensationalize a distant period in Dan Patrick’s life when he suffered from exhaustion and depression.

Depression is a serious illness with which many Texans struggle. Dan Patrick has made no secret of this period in his life and has talked about it on the radio. Dan Patrick shared his personal story – the hills and valleys of his life – with his supporters more than a year ago because he knew these attacks would come. Like all of Dewhurst’s attacks on Dan, this period occurred almost 30 years ago.

For David Dewhurst to use a surrogate and attack Dan Patrick over this personal health issue reveals his desperation and utter lack of character. Unfortunately, he learned nothing from the landslide defeat he suffered in the race with Ted Cruz.

Just as we stood with Ted Cruz, we – as conservative grassroots leaders across Texas – stand by our candidate Dan Patrick. We are more resolved than ever to make sure David Dewhurst leaves the Texas State capitol building forever.
