Is Ted Cruz Now the Front-Runner in Texas?

It depends on who you ask.  Four polls have come out just recently.  Of the four, three show Ted Cruz ahead of David Dewhurst by a margin of between 5 and 10 points.  One internal poll conducted by the Dewhurst campaign shows Dewhurst ahead by 8 points.  Here’s a top-level summary:

Looking beyond the raw, top-level numbers to the cross-tabs in the PPP poll, it appears that Ted Cruz is winning certain groups by substantial margins, including:

 

Tea Partiers (71%-26%)

Male voters (55%-38%) and

Evangelicals (50%-42%)

 

while David Dewhurst is ahead among:

 

Moderates (70%-20%) and

Female voters (49%-44%).
